About
Ilenia Montana
I’m a conference interpreter and translator, and my job is to help my clients communicate across language barriers. Whether that’s on screen, in a booth or through a written text.
I deliver quality results in compliance with professional standards, GDPR and privacy policy terms. I also have professional liability insurance.
Trust and confidentiality are essential to me.
My clients rely on me for premium translation and interpreting services worldwide, both in-person and remotely.
Why me?
I will be your linguistic and cultural bridge.
Reliable
I’ll be by your side throughout your event or project.
Versatile
I’m flexible and can adapt my skills to your specific needs.
Willing
Open, trustworthy and here to help you.
Curious
Eager to learn, I’ll do detailed research into your world.
Problem solver
Proactive and enjoyable, let’s make sure your project runs smoothly.
My sustainability
In my personal and professional life, I try to make my contribution to saving our planet. I care about the environment and my carbon footprint. When possible, I work with sustainable companies that care about our future.
For example, I have interpreted during a conference on Benefit Societies and sustainable agriculture (you can find the link here). Most of my clients (for example in the fashion industry) have recycling and being environmentally friendly at the core of their businesses.
On my side, I have decided, for instance, to go green and stop using paper: thanks to my new tablet I can work on documents while enjoying the handwriting experience with no need to print anything anymore (no glossaries, no power points, no pdf, no documents).

Sharing my knowledge
I’ve got where I am today also thanks to the high quality education I’ve had, so in 2021 I decided it was time to start giving back.
Alongside my interpreting and translation work, I’m now an adjunct professor.
I teach simultaneous, consecutive, and liaison interpreting in Spanish <> Italian to masters students at the University Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici in Pisa, Italy.
No interpreter is an island
Should you need help with languages I don’t offer, I can tap into my extensive network of reliable interpreters and translators.
Just get in touch to see if I could help with your project.
I’m a member of:
- The Italian Association of Interpreters and Translators (AITI)
- The Spanish Association of Interpreters, Translators (ASETRAD)
Plus, I’m currently a precandidate to the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC).
All of these associations are committed to keeping standards of quality and ethics in the language industry high, and certify that their members meet these standards.
Living and breathing interpreting
My favourite thing in the world? Languages, of course!
But yoga, travelling, the beach and Spain all come a close second.
And thanks to my freelance lifestyle and my regular work with clients in Spain, I can indulge in all my favourite things alongside a busy schedule.
When I was at school, languages were my thing. And the first time I heard someone interpreting, I was sold.
It wasn’t easy. But after six years of studying three degrees, four universities and three countries, I finally became a professional freelance conference interpreter and translator.
I’ve lived in the UK, Spain and all over Italy. Spain is my second home, and Spanish is my second language, or B language.
So although I’m currently based in Italy, I regularly spend long periods in Spain for personal and professional reasons.
As anyone that’s moved around that much knows, you’ve got to be open-minded, determined and ready for anything!
That’s why interpreting is perfect for me – it means I’ve got to be adaptable and constantly on the go, travelling around Italy, Spain and further afield, but I also have flexible hours, more me time and family time which makes me happy and deliver better results to my clients.
